Final Day @ WHAG

The final day of interning... July 29th, 2015. Today is bittersweet. On one hand, I'm done having to get up at three in the morning for morning side. On the other, I really wish I can hired on night side and weekends to be able to keep doing this kind of work and be able to get more time and experience in this field of work. The summer certainly has flown by. While eating breakfast this morning, I had a thought: "Wow, August is almost here. I am finishing up my internship, and Band camp for Ram Band starts the 15th. Where did Summer go?"Photo by Lori StrunkWell, it went by with finding an internship, working part time, hanging with my friends whenever I could find time between the two, and taking care of housework and other monotonous tasks my parents asked me to do daily or regularly (Sorry mom and dad. Love ya). 140 hours, to think, I thought...

COMM 333: Color Usage in Music Video

(www.colortools.net)   This blog post is going to discuss the importance of color usage in music videos. There is a guideline of 18 points that will be introduced later in the blog that is important to look over while doing ANY project is an propriety. Colors make up a crucial portion of any project and will help determine if a project will be great, or need to go back to the drawing board.      The following eighteen points are going to discuss the visual aspects of color that have been used in our music video project to help enhance the video slightly, but it makes a big difference in the long run. 1.)Visual  Color Spectrum of Light: Our video was shot outdoors, using the light from the sun, the shadows from the trees and branches. We also have a ton of mixed colors and individual colors in the leaves, grass, etc. in the scenery we shot in. 2.) Color Wheel: Going through the color...

Jungian Psychoanalysis and Abstract Art (COMM 403)

(Opening up my Emotions Bottle) By: James P. Kelley    The Jungian psychological analysis is a form of psychology that emphasizes the primary importance of the individual psyche and the personal quest for wholeness. This can be seen with abstract art. Sometimes, this art is a form of expression, sometimes it is a stress release. Other times, art is a way of life and is what makes the most sense to someone. Psychoanalysis and art have definitely had their spars and battles, especially with art critics, but they both help each other in understanding the whole of each part. I will be using the article 'Dreaming in the Abstract': Mondrian, Psychoanalysis, & Abstract Art in the Netherlands by Michael White of the University of York.      Abstract art...more importantly, Abstract Expressionism is a very important part of the art community. However, this art form has been criticized extensively and given a bad reputation in the fine arts community throughout the late 19th...

Graveyard Video Project Analysis

Our current project, in celebration of Halloween, is to create a short video that is based around using multiple different aspects that we have learned over the semester, as well as new material, like creating effects in a 3-D space, as well as maneuvering objects in a 3-D plane. Using After Effects from Adobe has been a fun and challenging experience. I sometimes find myself amazed at what is possible with this technology. I sometimes also find myself lost and forgetting what to do to simply animate a sequence of events together when all I have to do is move them while adding points on the timeline as to when I moved the object(s).  My graveyard project is using a ghost as the main character, while also utilizing the zoom and focus features in A.E. I haven't had the time to play around and learn how to use these tools because I have been focused on the tasks at...

1980’s MTV History: Bohemian Rhapsody: The song that started it all

Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody is such a distinguishable song that stands out in the minds of music lovers and critics. The lyrical styling of Freddie Mercury, the rhythm and tempo changes, and of course, the story that is involved with the song. What if I were to tell you that THIS iconic song started the notion of MTV being a real idea because of the creative nature of it's video and the effect it gave to the song? Yeah, To better explain how, lets explore the phenomenal song and it's video.   When the song was originally released, it was apparent to the executives that the song may be too long to become a hit and suggested that the band change the song in some way to make it shorter in length to grasp a hold of the attention of the audience. Queen being Queen, objected the executives decision and decided to go ahead and air the song, having snippets of...

Semiotics: Understanding Mythology or Ideology…for which job?

The media studies course I am taking here at Shepherd University has and is teaching a multitude of many fascinating and multi-faceted ways of thinking and ideas that can carry over into the future. I, however, not entirely certain as to what I would like to do after I graduate from Shepherd; So, I am becoming a versatile and omnipotent individual that can be able to accomplish many tasks for one company's needs. I am a curious and very intrigued person and have a lot of interests in the Communication and New Media department. I have already taken a studio production course and am currently taking a music video course, a media studies course (previously mentioned), a Computer-Mediated Studies course, and a special effects course. I also have may other courses I wish to take in future semesters.   Ideally, companies hire individuals that can fill the needs that they are working for. Then, those employees either learn more and...

Ray Harryhausen: A character within his characters

Ray Harryhausen is the god-father of stop-motion animation and animation movies that used characters that had to be super-imposed on already shot film. His characters were created with an idea in mind to be able to convey an image that will last a life-time. Ray's characters had a massive impact on the film industry and inspired many numerous characters to follow. But how? How did one man create such endearing and lasting images? Very, very meticulous work with a camera, his character models, and his brain.Harryhausen created his monsters all on his own accord after being influenced by King-Kong back in the 1930's. From there, he took off with his imagination and his education to create films all on his own. His character models originated as drawings through a story-board. The characters had to be made with armatures, careful-detail, and an eye for subtle, but extremely important differences that make the characters speak for themselves. Ray worked with no real help...

Analysis II of “Say Something”

The song "Say Something" by A Great Big World with Christina Aguilera was released on November 14, 2013. This song is about a few different situations and also has a lot to read into, so lets get started.   The video itself involves a broad and open minded spectrum in dealing with dark times in our lives, whether they are significant loss, or small pains that occur in life. Death, loneliness, breakups, etc. It also involves images going to and fro with each hit of the piano keys, giving the video its tempo and exemplifies the lyrics and puts lasting images in our minds. The water flowing in the video gives us the sense that tears are cried for a multitude of reasons, but its all just water that's out poured for many different reasons. The other band member of A Great Big World is not really doing anything in the video except leaning on the piano. Is he going to tell the...
